I am a Red Seal Chef with over 30 years experience in cooking and baking. I was born and raised in Esterhazy and I am committed to serving not only my community, but those around me as well.
Who is Grandma?
Grandma is Laura Duchek (nee Abdai). Being born and raised in Esterhazy, and I value small town atmosphere. I attended PJ Gillen Elementary School and graduated from Esterhazy Central High. I went on to cooking school, where I obtained my Professional Cooking Diploma and later my Red Seal Certificate. I worked at the Esterhazy Motor Hotel, Mr. Gregory’s Restaurant, The Old Central Hotel, managed the clubhouse at the Esterhazy Golf Course one summer. I have always loved baking and cake decorating, for which I thank my late mom as she taught me much of the basics. While working at the Esterhazy Motor Hotel, one of my favourite times were when we had banquets and smorgasbords. I enjoyed the creativeness and organization required of large functions and the pleasure it gave customers! Catering is an extension of this for me.
My husband, Tyler, and I live on an acreage just north of Esterhazy, near Zeneta, SK, just a mile from where my Grandparents homesteaded. I have three married adult children and four grandsons, with a granddaughter due in the spring! Growing up in a rural setting provided me with an invaluable knowledge base. I have three gardens which span approximately two acres (this does not include all of my flower beds). Yes, I start my own seeds and I LOVE weeding. Living in the country has provided me with my own vegetables and the ability to have a “Catering Kitchen” separate from our family home.
It is my hope to provide my customers with the freshest produce I can offer…’Crop to Tabletop’… as they say. It is also important to utilize locally sourced items when possible. Grandma wants strives to enhance her customers experience through thoughtful and innovative menu’s to meet their unique needs. We always have time to answer questions, create unique menu options, provide free estimates, and discuss any concerns you may have.
Grandma’s Baking & Catering offers banquet service, table service, dishwashing and clean up. We have experience in large functions, intimate dinners, family reunions, weddings, and graduation parties. Always remember….”Grandma wants to COOK for YOU”!
